Parklife

One thing that I thought I was going to miss most about Atlanta was the greenery and park space.  I lived in Inman Park, frequented Piedmont Park, and ran on freedom park.  I took it for granted.  As a tourist I thought the greenspace was severely lacking in NYC; however as a resident I've realized if you want green space, you have many options.  There is, of course Central Park, Riverside Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, community gardens in the East Village, etc etc.

The inspiration for this post came while listening to an old Blur cd and Parklife came on.  It is a pretty cool song and for those interested you can hear it here:  blur: parklife video.

One of my favorite quotes from the song is: 'Confidence is a preference for the habitual voyeur of what is known as parklife'

paper, rock, scissorhands

Last night Paige and I joined Amy and Driscoll at Movies with a View of the Brooklyn Bridge.  The weather was perfect, upper 60's with no clouds in the sky.  The movie was Edward Scissorhands and I was the only one of the four that had never seen it.  We arrived ~6:30 and the crowd was already pretty full but we got lucky right up front and had a killer spot.  Eventually, for the 1st time in 10 years the event reached capacity and it became a 1 in 1 out situation.  I think people heard I was coming, it usually brings a fervor and a crowd.

High Line

On Saturday Paige and I joined my cousin Jessica and her husband Lance for brunch and to walk the High Line. The High Line was originally constructed in the 1930s to serve as a railway through Manhattan. Section 1 was just completed and had its grand opening a few weeks ago after 8 years of fundraising efforts. It now serves as a public park, and once all sections are completed will be a mile and a half long extending through much of Midtown's West Side. We felt fortunate to have moved here in time for the opening and will hopefully see the next two sections come to life while we are here.

Below you can see a sample of the flowers they have planted on the High Line. The picture doesn't do it justice as it really is a beautiful park.
